Late 2013 imac processor11/12/2022 ![]() ![]() It also is the only mac that uses the 84W desktop CPU part. Heatsinking on the new 27" is miles beyond MBP and mac mini. And the other poster is right that speedwise -3.5GHz imac pretty equivalent to the the base quad nMP (for 1/2 the cost) Get applecare - use it 2.75 years - sell for 50% of what you paid and then replace. I have a Black magic multidock with 4 SSDs - works perfect and plenty fast for audio record and Sample drives. Pretty much faster than anything else you can put in.Ģ) Graphics is what it is - unless you are a gamer you need no more.Ĥ) RAM (on the 27") - 32G capable - easy to addĥ) Extra Hard drives - just add them external! - USB3 is in the 400MB/s range R/W - TB1 can saturate any single SSD or spinning drive you have - only the new PCIe based TB external drives can go fast enough to fill TB1. Late 2013 imac processor upgrade#The way apple designed the new imac there is no real reason to upgrade anything internal !ġ) If you just get the internal SSD it is already 700MB/s Read and write. Still less of a pain in the ass than replacing the RAM on the latest rMBPs which involves soldlering IMac Intel 27" EMC 2639 Hard Drive Replacement - iFixit I'm guessing that's mostly because of the dual graphic cards which, like you mentioned, is only really useful if you're doing video or extremely high resolution graphicsĪlso you can upgrade the 27" iMac's RAM from the back, there's 4 slots, you can also upgrade the hard drive but you have to take thing apart which is a bit more nerve-racking than doing it with a MBP since you have to pry out the screen Not the best idea though for them, it means I have to buy a new system instead of upgrading and squeezing another year out of it.only if you get the $4k MacPro because the quadcore one is about as fast as an i7 iMac cept it costs more and doesn't come with a screen, mouse or keyboard I've gotten new life out of MacBooks by upgrading RAM and hard drives in the past. The thing I don't like about the new iMacs is you can't replace parts or upgrade parts. I guess if you look at it like, over the next five to six years, I'm going to need to go through two iMacs, to keep up with the advancements and requirments of electronic music, or just do it once with a Mac Pro. If money was no object, I guess it would be nice to never have to worry about running out of CPU. They are made for graphic designers, not musicians. Still cheaper than a Mac Pro.Ī MacPro is overkill. Someone around here, Myrok I think, had three Mac Mini's linked together. About the same power as iMac, cheaper, and you can get an off brand HD monitor for $200. Usually drop box it before I almost finish the arrangement and get it into the iMac.Īlso, don't forget to look at MacMini. I make stuff all the time on my 13" MBair, but it gets annoying. Wish I got the 27", because Logic on a huge screen is so much more fun. So sure, I think an iMac, maxed out on RAM, with an ext SSD or two can get the job done. Don't know why, they seek to sound better like that. Usually keep VCC at 2x, the Glue at 4x, and DC8C at 8x. I don't like to set it and then bounce because the sound does change so I always check. DC8C, The Glue, and VCC all run at 8x oversample. Compression? A lot of the Glue, Logic's own, DC8C2, and the Softube CL1B and Waves API2500. I use a lot of different EQs including Pro-Q in linear phase on the master, along with some Softube stuff for boosting when neccessary. Lots of FilterFreak, EchoBoy, VCC and Satin on almost everything. Same with mixing, in fact, I probably overload the system more during mixing then during arrangement. Switch Diva or any instrument to max oversample (aka Divine) before bouncing. ![]() I'm in the habit of bouncing to audio as soon as possible especially once I get the drum sounds I like. ![]() Occassionally I will get a little split second freeze when a new region hits the playhead. Unless the compression is part of the sound design in which case I dgiigxdoften using Logic's Platinum for some snap conpression. No EQ, no compression, no Slate VCC, no uHe Satin, no verb or delay/chorus until mixing time. I think the thin alluminum case just radiates heat away. Do they even have fans? I hear people complaining about fans here all the time. Per the activity monitor, never exceed RAM supply, but CPU often exceeds 100% with the avalable turbo boost. Usually have a few channels of hardware that I record seperately one at a time. Wouldn't call my self a "serious" producer but usually run about 25-35 channel projects, not including aux/bus. Late 2012 21.5" 2.7GHz Quad Core i5 with 8GB RAM. ![]()
